Growing up, it seemed like I didn’t know anyone who had gone to college. It was such a foreign concept to me that it made my brain hurt just thinking about it. All I had to go on was what I had seen in movies, which typically glorified overly sexual campus life and overcoming struggles against the privileged population. But movies are over within a couple of hours and all the characters learn dramatic life lessons. Since then, I’ve had nearly every experience you can think of regarding college. I’ve matured from a newb into a professional that’s prepared for anything. The most difficult part of this journey has been simply learning the things that others take for granted, such as applying for financial aid on time, communicating with the undergrad office, and working closely with academic advisors to make sure I’m on track to graduate.
